As you might have seen, Morgan is now selling an electric three wheeler targeted at kids. R&T says it will start at $8250. This is quite a bit of coin for a child’s ride on toy, but, what if I had a better use?
A bit of background: I love Morgans. About as much as Ferraris. I really want a M3W but can’t have the both the 348 and the 3 wheeler. I live about a mile from the beach and have been tossing around the idea of a small scooter to use for the beach. I am a former collegiate cross country runner so my dimensions are almost kid sized: ~5'8", 135 lbs.
If you put these together, I might have found a fun little beach transportation device. The 10 mph top speed seems slow but would be similar to a leisurely pace on a bike.
Alternatively: spec racing cup
What do you think OPPO?

I think they need the engines out of a Honda Grom before we start a spec series.

That is a great idea! You could even mount the engine up front, between the headlights like the full scale M3W.

What happened to the weird offset headlight? That was the best part!

Might need larger brakes. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Given that a
GEM e2
retails for $9k without options, why not the Morgan, really... As an electric mobility/in-town zipping around device, it’s pretty competitive, I’d say.

Alternately $9k could get you a wrangler you could remove the doors, roof and windshield from and cruise to the beach in.

The answer is always miata
Get a beatup NB for $1500
Remove all body panels, top and glass
Slap on some spotlights
Add big fat wheels and super aggressive sand tires
Pocket the difference

It would be unique, that’s for sure!

I have a NB Miata. No room in the garage for another car so it needs to not leak (badly) on the few days a year it rains. Or all of January this year. A Vespa would be an even better option. Best option is to keep riding my bike, but where is the fun in that?

Yeah, 9k is not much of a value, but it is unique. Parking for a Jeep would be a hassle. Our house already has 5 cars with parking for 3. A 300cc Vespa would be fun too. In all honesty though, I will likely keep using my bicycle. Unfortunately, the responsible option is the least fun.

I had the same “I bet I could fit in that” response you did. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Somebody on the FP pointed out that it looks like a helpless, screaming bug on its back, and now I can’t unsee it. It’s like that kid pulled most of its legs off.

Exactly!! What could go wrong?!

I bet that kid has burned many ants with a magnifying glass. Definitely gives off that vibe. I can see the bug on it’s back thing. But, I still like it!

I think for the beach transportation device, you’re going to be better off with a more conventional electric-assisted recumbent trike (although you’ll want some nice fat tires to not sink into the sand - something that’d be a problem with this, too).

I’d park before I got to the sand, with any choice. A little scooter would actually be ideal and my bicycle works well. I like to dream up ridiculous solutions to non-problems though. haha
